Fix It Friday: Dimpled Darling

It's Friday again, and time to practice my photo-editing skills with this adorable photo by Angie of i Heart Faces. Here is my edited version:

And here is the original:

Here is what I did to this photo:
Opened in GIMP. Applied unsharp mask to entire photo. Lassoed irises and lashes and applied a second unsharp mask. Under colors menu, increased brightness and contrast using slider bar. Also decreased reds under Color Balance menu. Lowered overall color saturation. Selected red from color menu and increased lightness, lowered saturation. Added a layer, set to overlay at 50% opacity. Dodged the whites of eyes. Flattened image. Saved.
Opened image in Picnik. Cropped. Used blemish fix on undereye redness. Used shine-be-gone on nose. Added Cross Process effect faded to 85%. Added Sepia and selected peachy/gray from color bar. Saved to my computer. Done!

Wow, looks incredible! Thanks for giving the step-by-step instructions. I think you and I are the ONLY ones on earth not using Photoshop. I've never heard of GIMP and you've probably never heard of Fireworks. Haha But I'm gonna try it!

I'm a complete moron when people start talking about correct lighting photo talk.

BUT I always love admiring great photos. Wow. Great job and making it more WOW.
