Finally! Something Worth Posting!

I haven't had much time to devote to this, my beloved blog, what with hubby starting a new job and me launching my own small business, but I have been so moved by a local story that I had to carve out a few minutes to share it with all of you.

It was two years ago this June that Carol and Scott Decker gave birth to their second daughter, Safiya, by emergency c-section because Carol had come down with an infection that turned septic. The infection and the medications used to treat its symptoms caused a lot of damage to Carol's system and resulted in the amputation of both legs, one arm, and the loss of her sight. After many months of rehabilitation, Carol is home with her husband and children and trying to flourish in a home without the necessary improvements for an occupant with disabilities. As you might imagine in a depressed economy and facing mounting medical bills, there are not funds to finance an upgrade or remodel of the home to accomodate Carol's handicaps. So, some caring friends in our hometown have nominated the Deckers for ABC's Extreme Home Makeover and are launching a campaign to rally behind this family and encourage ABC to choose them as a candidate for the show.

You can read more about their story and their amazingly positive attitudes at their blog, and you can be a part of the movement to make them visible to ABC by joining their Facebook Fan Page and leaving a comment about how the family's story has touched your life!
